#1 | | Guest | Adsense locations on forums I haven't used adsense in quite some time, but I figured I'd try it out for a while with one of my small, growing forums. I know there are quite a few sites out there with recommendations as to where to put ads, but I figured I'd try it out myself on a vB forum.
I'm going to be doing different placements for the ads for months. Each month I'll change the placement of the ads and then compare and see if there are any noticable differences.
One thing you should know is that I added conditionals that make it so only guests can see the ads. Some people don’t like doing this because it limits the amount of people seeing it, but I personally think that your members are less likely to click an advertisement than a guest. Also, why harass registered members with ads when you can keep it nice and clean for them without them? My Setup for this month:
LinkUnits Matching my forums colors and scheme in sidebar and under the navbar.

| Re: Adsense locations on forums It will be nice to track the changes.
I just switched the ads under the navbar bar last night to a bigger ad
I only show the ads to guest as well. |

I'm not sure which will work better, as I know I (and probably others too) have basically become ad-blind. if they look like google ads, or yahoo ads, you just don't even notice them anymore. So that is part of my thinking with keeping it as close to my theme as possible now

| Re: Adsense locations on forums I ran adsense for everyone (members and unreg'd) for about 6 months on of my boards. I didn't run into any problems with the big G. Now, I have private advertisers so I just run adsense on my archive pages, I get a few clicks here and there.
I think people are getting adsense blind, I know I really have to look for the ads to see them or they have to be in face enough for me to be annoyed by them.
Adsense is a dying breed.. Google keeps lowering the PPC rate, for low traffic sites it's not even worth copy/pasting the code. :damn: |

Anyone have info on any up-and-coming advertising methods or sites that I could review just let me know.
Seems like all the CPC ones don't do much anymore.

| Re: Adsense locations on forums I think I'll remove the big ads for guest this weekend.
Since I added it two days ago, my registrations have about gone in half
I've only made about 3$, I think Id rather have more members, then a few more $'s. |

| Re: Adsense locations on forums You should be running adsense for members, Brandon! VBS is on of the view sites I allow ads for. I allow ads on all sites I visit regularly, the rest get blocked. Why not generate a few extra clicks? I normally shove mine right on top of the previous/next tread links on showthread. |

But we'll see how this goes and then we'll know for sure what's best. |

| Re: Adsense locations on forums Hello -
I just moved my forum from IIS to Linus ...finally.
Yes I do have to re-position my adsense too. I just noticed that my forum is by far the less click portion ( in percentage ) of the website. Well below 1% -
If anybody here does not know anyway the best book an adsense is to my opinion by Joel Comm - Worth 10 times its cost if you are seriuos about Adsense. I will go pick now where he placed his ads on his forum.
Ciao

| Re: Adsense locations on forums If you would actually read Joel Comm book it might actually help your optional add placement. Maybe I miss express myself but my problem before was that I could not place the ads correctly because of several head heacks that IIS was giving me in placing ads ( and my poor expertise in vbulletin). However my major source of income in life is adsense and I was trying to help.
