Thread-specific style forcing?

Hi everyone,
It's easy enough to make forum-specific styles, but how could I code something like:
if thread=X
styleid=Y

in order to force anyone looking at that particular thread to be looking at it in a particular style? And which template would be the one for the mod?

Many thanks indeed in advance for all help on this difficult one.
