No banners allowed on my site - need suggestions

everyone, first post.

My site is an ad & banner free site - and I want to keep it that way. Now let us begin.

Over the past 4 - 5 months my site has been totally supported by donations. The donations pay the server cost, pay for any add-ons and still have a little left over.

In an effort to increase income, I bought VBarticles from madebymary.com. The plan is to allow businesses to post articles about their products, kinda like an infomercial in the VBarticles section. Companies would pay to have their articles posted.

The point is to keep the site banner free. If companies want to advertise, it will be by adding content to my site, not just a banner.

Any suggestions or ideas.

The name is Survivalist Forum and Discussion Board - Urban and Wilderness Survival Topics

Despite the name we cover all kinds of topics - gardening, hunting, fishing, emergency prepardness, firearms, politics, hiking, and camping.

I used to have google ads on my site. When it came time to send me my check, google send me and email saying some of the content on my site violated the terms of the google ads. So I removed all the ads and switched to a donation system. Google still sent the payment, but it will be the only one I receive from them.

This idea can surely work, however it will require quite a bit of effort on your part. You also need to make sure that genuine articles are also posted in that section, else no one would be interested in paying you for posting their articles there.

Maybe get a collection of articles from reputably members on your forum, and outside experts. Package these articles in a small ebook, or in a special forum where visitors must pay a small $5 membership fee to access it.

You could also get companies to sponsor certain sections, like a fishing site sponsor your fishing forums
