I was talking with Lizard King and he said do a minimum of $10. So I might consider that. He says I will get tons of questions. Also, will put the new release up soon, but I just implemented the print recipe function, which now works, and also completely phrased it. So good day of work today. Also added recipe count to the member page, and to the postbit or postbit_legacy. All three of these templates are auto edits. So i also need to update the instructions.

The other option is similar to what a friend of mine did for a CMS recipe addon..

The mod itself was $5 but it was just the addon with no recipes... He then bought this and exported all the recipes in the software and prepared a database for the addon. That he sold for $25.

That way for people who wanted to have recipes they could ahve a solution for almost no money, but for those who wanted a 'ready populated' recipe book, they had to pay for the .sql file. Once imported (his was through phpmyadmin, though I suppose it could be done through the plugin itself), you'd have a populated recipe book.

Again, I'm just trying to be a sounding board... Obviously you will do what you feel is best and I'll be along for the ride! It's good stuff!

The only thing is, is this is not going to work by trying this. It isnt a standalone program. It requires you to select a certain forum where you want it to be posted into to make it a recipe mod. So I cant have anything preset in it. Still looking at adding some features, but time is scarce right now.

I realise that doing a pre-populated .sql of recipes won't work because everyone will have their categories different.

But, what I was thinking was that if you did one, I would be prepared to dump them into a 'sandbox' forum then spend the time to move them into my applicable categories.

Again, I didn't think it would work for your purposes, just thought I'd offer an opinion.

I realize this is an old topic, but it's already bumped up so what the hey --

I don't promote my site on competing forums, it's more a less an issue of respect as an admin I've learned how hard it is to build up a community. Why should another admins' hard work (building his forum) be my easy ticket to gaining members? I do place sig links on non-competing forums though as long as it's within their TOS.

I do allow links to other forums on my board though, mainly for informational purposes but I'm easy as long as you aren't linking to porn or hateful stuff -- Link away.

As long as you are not spamming or you are not a direct competitor I feel its ok and I generally allow this in my forums and of course I use them my self as well.

I link my site when it's appropriate within advice or questions I've reply to. Spamming other forums is not very polite, and should be avoided in my opinion. You don't want to cause that tension between your competitors as you will isolate their dedicated members from your site.
