What events do you promote to build traffic?

We have the contest and the BOTM, but I'm wondering what you do to build traffic and activity on your forums?

My primary promotion technique is video blogging on youtube.

Using youtube with relevant video content works really well-not sure if you are on it already, but having a vbsetup channel giving tips etc would definitely drive more traffic here...

When I first started, I ran competitions getting local business involved-e.g. Forum is for my former university-got a local gym to offer 1 months free membership, advertised it well, member with most posts in specified time frame would win. Gym benefits as it's reaching out to students, and students always wanna win freebies..

I am also starting a contest and have a prize donated for it.

I have a lot of guest traffic will be using the contest to encourage registrations.

Register, ask 1 question or start 1 discussion, and try to convert them into members what way.

I like the suggestion of running a youtube channel which I haven't explored so far. I feel youtube should bring in good amount of traffic and new members. Thanks for the inputs kev & Bruwizzle.

I run a wrestling forum and we really depend on PPV nights to boost our traffic ratings up, which usually the case ever since the forum was opened. Getting bigger each month, and hopefully I can start implementing Contest w/ prizes and really start bringing in members.

iam using the channel currently to host the How To series for users on my site. Maybe its potential needs to be explored further
