Advantages of multiple domains?

Are there any advantages of having multiple domains for the same website?

So having domains: (for example)

name.com
name2.com
name.net

pointing all to the same site; would I gain any advantage (SEO)?

um, well
I own vbulletinsetup.com .net and .org just cuz I didn't want anyone else to make vbulletinsetup.net and claim to be my site.

I don't see much advantage other then, not letting others register it.. Oh if one site was getting a lot of type in traffic, then you can direct that traffic to another site.

If you own a .COM of your domain name you are @ your level best (dont need rest of TLDs)

We own TechArena - The Indian Perspective of Technology and bought TechArena - The Indian Perspective of Technology for not less then 8000 US$ (since this is a premium domain name), we required the same since we were only using a country specific TLD and not a .COM.

Owning rest of global TLDs (.net, .org, .biz, .info) etc. should always be helpful to you (in case you plan to expand your site for monetary purpose.
