I manage a forum with over 21000 registered users...roughly 200 on at any given time...with over 300,000 posts...and is easily one of the highest trafficed sites in my business field.

What I cannot seem to figure out is twofold

1. why google only has 50,000 pages indexed or roughly less than 20% of total threads.

2.why I have next to zero "backlinks" given the popularity and traffic of the site itself?

We have just recently purchased vbseo in an attempt to help out with this...but have not yet installed it.

I however was hoping for an alternative explanation for the situation?

searching is helpful...although some of the links on this page give really bizarre results

most of the page rankers I check all return 0/10 *shrug

although pagepower.info lists 47,500 backlinks.

google shows only 55....

yahoo shows 187,000 indexed pages
google shows 51,600

all so confusing! =)

I think the last PR update disabled some of those PR checker sites. I thought I had taken the link off the sidebar ?

I would use yahoo to check backlinks..

vbseo should help you out on getting indexed, the default vbulletin has several duplicate content issues that will hinder your search results.

ok..now im completely confused =)

running that tool lists 8791 total links. (popularity checker) with 8200 of them on altavista...msn is 2nd with 215...the rest are under 100.

now another competitors site...which has less than 1/10th our posts/members/traffic somehow has 40,000 links?

thats more links than there are even posts!

how is this possible?

guess installing vbseo is the only answer here?

It would help if we could see the 2 url's.
