Changing Domain name

,

I'm going to do the thing that nobody should ever do... change my domain name.
Well, since i HAVE TO, how should i proceed?
What's the best way to do it?

Re: Changing Domain name

Well maybe you should contact the engines and have your old name and every link for it removed. I mean they will be deindexed anyway. So it might save you some time doing that. That way does not look like double content while your waiting for pages to drop and be reindexed. Also maybe make a nice splash page to leave on your old domain with a little message and a link to new domain name. I would have all links removed before changing the name.

Yeah that would work, but seems kind of tacky. And you can contact most engines via a forum or certain url to have your site removed. I would contact them and then have them removed. Then add just one page on the old domain. Maybe a nice message with an anchored link. You could even pretty it up by adding some stuff to it. Maybe add some links to parts of your forum or something.

Re: Changing Domain name

I guess that a "splash page" won't work with the 301 redirect am i right?
But at least i won't suffer much.

Can you give me an example on how my redirect should look like?

Cheers!

Re: Changing Domain name

well if you want to have a spash page on the index.html or w/e extension, that would be good
then I would redirect all the other links to the new url.
