Criteria for PR1

Is there any criteria for PR1?

I've been on one site that can esimate your PR and it says you need at least 100 backlinks before it can estimate PageRank. Both my forum and blog are reletively new, my forum is currently PR0 and the blog is yet to receive a PR but the blog has less than 100 backlinks (according to Yahoo, on google is has none).

But for my forum, it only has 3 backlinks on google but over 200 on yahoo.

So what is the criteria for achieving each level of PR?

Domain age?
Backlinks?
Indexed Pages?
All of the above?

Thanks

You wont want to hear this answer, but pagerank means absolutely nothing to be honest.

That said, there is no "known" formula (too many variables from google) to really say after X amount of Y you'll have a PR of X

Re: Criteria for PR1

Just build links to your site and forum, the more relevant the better.
A page rank of 1 really isn't hard to get, if you had your links in the sigs of all forums your visit, you will get a pr1 or better assuming this is at least 200 post or so..

but like Rocket said, PR means nothing, traffic and rankings for your keyphrases is where it's at ;)

If I where you, I'd work on those backlinks that google shows..
It will update the "link:site.com" data about every 3-4 months.
Yahoo will always show more links, but google will get you more traffic in the end ;)

Like our site, last time I checked, yahoo shows something like 70k backlinks, google probably shows about 1k.. We get 3 times as much google search traffic, vs. yahoo too.

PR can be used to market to SEO noobies, who think linking to a PR5 site with their PR0 site will somehow be helpful .

Yahoo backlink generator is funny and works completely different then googles. I do beleive google's is alot more efficent and worth while though.

Tons of factors go into getting PR, such as all those you listed, and many more that no one will ever know about (not even me and all my infinite knowledge .

Just try to build solid content, use whitehat SEO, and you'll be well on your way to getting traffic

Also about pagerank;

Many admins really get upset about their PR and think it will affect visitors. The realistic view is most people don't even have the google toolbar installed, and even less have the PR bar graph enabled so most poeple have no idea what it is, or even give a crap about what it is.

It might not mean much to some, and I am a newbie when it comes to webmasters so maybe my view will change over time but for now I'm keeping an eye on it.
