Do you get more than one chance?


This is probably just me being paranoid.

Is this SEO thing a hit or miss--you get one chance, or you're on the black-list? For example, what if I've been optimizing for the wrong keywords this whole time? Can I change it and everything will be better in a few months? Or is it too late?

Like I said...me being paranoid, lol. I just need someone to assuage my concerns.

But are things like submitting to search engines bad? I submitted automatically to hundreds of engines. Was that bad? Will it hurt me? Or just not help?
