I'm getting traffic but no sign ups

I've been getting a lot of traffic for having a brand new forum. Right now I have 50 guest online but so far I only have 2 sign ups. Why is it so difficult to start a forum community?

It takes time. Keep building content and networking in your niche and don't give up I think many people expect immediate gratification when building their site but just need to be patient.

could be search engine spiders do you have the facility of telling spiders from guests

Yes,it shows in my cpanel how many of the visitors are spiders.

If it's the site in your sig, you have very little content, so thats why they're not signing up.

It is the site in my sig. I was wondering if it would be better for wait for people to register and post or for me to start posting content. How would that look if the admin is the only one posting?

its actually pretty simple you gotta give folks an incentive to sign up like a WIFM (whats in it for me)

, if you have some folks you know who share common interests you get them to help you start off..also content could be in the form of articles, downloads etc

At first glance I really couldn't tell what the primary concept of the forum is. I had to view your page source to find out.

Global Virtual Opportunities Discussion Forum

What does that entail?
What service can you provide?
What is GVO's primary purpose?

You have to get that content in and it's best coming from you to start as you establish
yourself as the expert in the field.

Answering the question I posed for you to contemplate should help.
Back up what you say in your posts, like in your Video Thread you said Just look at this site you are on now. It is filled with media rich video. I didn't see a single video.

Get rid of the spammers... I don't think cigarette sales has anything to do with what your trying to accomplish, general or not. JMHO, good luck, it takes LOTS of work, dedication and constant tweeking
you'll get there if you work hard.

I understand what you're saying if you're not familiar with GVO Hosting,I am going to add more categories. And I just read that spam post and I deleted it.

You might check out the "notices" feature as well
Here is an old thread before the notices where out, but there are some great examples of users who have something like "this is what our site is about, here are nice icons to those pages"

Caddyman can make a nice setup if he has time, for a small fee $$

Others can too, I just have always liked the images on his site

Right, that's what you have to assume, most won't, you want your visitors to land on
your page and go " Oh wow, I've been looking for something like this" Of which they know

The dumbest thing I ever did was copy my guest notice from one forum to another and forgot to update the link to the register.php. Every time someone tried to use the main register link they were getting sent over to the other forums registration page. It took me over a month to realize the mistake too. Oops!

Just don't think negative, keep up the good work , make good back links to increase traffic,

use services like link building, signature building, forum posting that will increase your traffic....

Try to submit your site to social bookmarking website, and in the description leave something informing them to sign-up, i don't know why it worked for me i get over 10 sign-up a day now.

Really get more content. Get your website PR up higher and make people want to sign up. Look through all the other forums and see how they do it. No it aint easy but if it was then it would not be worth it.
