Just installed vBSEO? Want to check how your re-indexing is going?

I've just thought of a way to check to see how your sites re-indexing is coming along. This is useful if your forum was running without vBSEO for a while and you have dynamic urls indexed in google. Over time, the dynamic urls will be deleted and the new static urls will replace them.

You can check how many pages google has index by using the 'site:' command in google.

For example:

Code:
site:vbulletinsetup.com
Dynamic urls should still have 'showthread.php' text in the urls so you can use this command to see how many are still in the database.

Code:
showthread.php site:vbulletinsetup.com
Monitor the results over a period of time and see how the results decreases in size.

I'm sure there's a more structured and secure way of searching for this so if anyone can improve on that query, please do.

that's a good idea glennybee, I'll try that next time I add vbseo to a forum and see how it works

I think the way I was measuring the new indexed pages was site:vbulletinsetup.com -vbseo

something like that, I don't remember for sure

I'm showing a total of 5,970 at this point. Is that good, bad, indifferent?

Ideally you don't want any showthread.php links in google because they don't exist any more. I seem to be going down by about 60-80 per day.
