Length of time a domain is registered?

I read somewhere that Google gives more weight to domains that have been in existence for a while. Does it matter if the domain has changed hands? I also read speculation that if you registered your domain for several (the number quoted was 5) years in advance Google would also look upon that favorably, but considering domain name registrars stand to profit from that I wonder if it's true. What's the skinny on domain registration length?

Re: Length of time a domain is registered?

well if you register for only a year it might be seen as a spam or junk domain, registering for years in advance shows the webmaster is serious in developing the site.

i would say no, it doesnt matter if the site has changed hands....

Re: Length of time a domain is registered?

Few people say that and I think it might just be true, since Google is a domain registrar and has access to underlying registry data.
