mod_rewrite vs vbSEO

Does your server need to have mod_rewrite enabled in order for vbSEO's url rewrite to work?

Re: mod_rewrite vs vbSEO

basically yes

since it uses .htaccess for that, and url_rewrite is an apache module.

Not sure every hosting company has it active but I do on all servers I manage. More and more scripts use it and many experts and less experts are now doing seo (real hype these days though I wonder how well it works)

I had to add lines to the htaccess also, but I think you must have mod_rewrite enabled or something similar on the sever

Yes that is correct. What he can do is look under "View PHP info" in admincp, and check for "mod_rewrite" under loaded modules.

According to my host (ASmallOrange): mod_rewrite is available, but it is not an automatic thing. You must add the appropriate settings to your .htaccess file.

mod_rewrite is just an apache module like an engine able to do what is written in .htaccess file (rule set)
