My #1 competitor just got site links...

I'm really confused. My number one competitor just got site links from Google, but some of the links Google choose lead to nowhere????

I found this by googling by their name and obviously they're #1, but even using their name I'm #2. I'm finally getting some love from Google. I'm now on the first page finally for my #1 search term & #6 overall. I'm also on the first page for all my other primary search terms.

Obviously I don't have site links, but want them. I am concerned that my site is not set up well enough to get site links. I'm considering a redesign that will both be more intuitive for the members and hopefully the bots so I can get them.

I think I got site links after 6 months of being online and I remember when you started your forum so I think you have a bit to go yet. Don't be discouraged by this, if anything it should spur you on to beat your competitor - what can you do, how can you improve? Think outside of the box!

I'm at about the 6 1/2 month point and nothing yet. Although, I had vBSEO added on September 1st, so it's only been 2 1/2 months since then. So, I'm not holding my breath, but keepin' an eye out for it

this is good for you

they are not on the ball like you
these can be edited in google's webmaster tools
when we first got them for vbsetup, they had one to my profile.. I guess because I post all over the forum or something? but I asked them not to use that and they found another good one..
just keep building links and you'll get them too.. it seems google hands them out to everyone anymore

Any idea how old your competitor's site is compared to yours? Maybe that's why?

they're definately much older. Possibly 5 -6 years.

I don't see sitelinks but I clicked the 'promote' button for you. Not sure what this does, only noticed it today.

Interesting the promote was not there when I was doing my Google SERP tests. I went and promoted mine:angel4:, but demoted theirs:bat:.

In reading thr popup which came I think it is only for your reference...

I was just looking into my SERP for more terms and noticed if I google "umpire forum" my #1 competitor comes up #1 w/o site links. When I google their name they have site links. I thought this was a bit strange...

Arny, Sorry for the slower response I have the promote/demote buttons when I'm signed in to my Google account, but not when I am signed out.

I got sitelinks 2 months ago but they have gone now! Not sure why, i'd like them back though.

no, they never did to be honest but they did show for a while when i searched for whatsyourview and have now disappeared. Maybe google where considering it and then decided against it lol Its a strange one.

How do I edit what my site links are and make them go to where I want?

You can't.

Google just picks up what they find to be important...you can block some though..read here, and congrats!!

yes, in your webmaster account it will show what sitelinks they have added and you can block ones you dont want shown.

They've only given me 3 so if I delete one they'll be gone. They picked one that goes to a tag in my tag cloud. I'll just keep it for now and hope for more.
