Notices verse Welcome Header Image

I've been thinking about changing the default Welcome to the Site/Registration message with either the 3.7 Notices, or a welcome header image. I'm not sure what the difference between the two are...

Basically I wanted to do something like this forum. Is that a good idea? What do you recommend?

A million thanks,

-Luigi

I would go with the notices so you could drop the welcome header hack

less hacks = faster forum

yeah, they do the same thing, actually i think the new welcome header hack just automatically sets up the notices properly. i use the image and i like it, that forum you linked welcome message is a little weak IMO, you can do better

Can't you just use the welcome header image along in vBulletin notices?

I can be pretty ad blind and it took me a couple seconds to see what you were talking about.

Yes, Yogesh, you can place an image in the notices.

Brandon, I think you're right with the faster forum theory, but I've never had my welcome header images completely stall page loads the way Woopra does this site on occasion. If a fast forum is what you're after, Woopra is certainly not your ally.
