Question about submitting member-written articles to directories

My members have written a few dozen great articles, and given permission for them to be reproduced (though to my knowledge some have only been reproduced in paper newsletters and such). I currently have them in an articles section, but am considering submitting some to article directories in order to increase the inbound links to my site. One thing I'm not sure of though, if I submit some articles and they're duplicated on other sites will that affect the ranking of the original articles?

By this, do you mean higher PR then they do? Or do you mean ability to edit/take down the articles?

i think he means authority in like the SEO type way, as in they are ranked higher in the seo game then your site.

Ah... the overall site PR or the original article's page PR?

Submit your RSS feeds to over 58 search engines and top directories
Re: Question about submitting member-written articles to directories

One quick way to search for an existing article online is to include a set of words in quotes.
So just pick a random "5 words" and search google with the quotes around it.. If you don't see anything right away, you are most likely okay. As for your question on should you or shouldn't you givin your members permission. I can tell you I would and I would submit the top articles to as many article directories as I could find. Or at least 20 of the top ones.
