Struggling With PR

Hi all, I have been running my off topic chat forum now for nearly a year (will be a year on Feb 3rd 2008) and I am struggling to get the page rank up and keep it up, i was a page rank 2 not long ago and now I have dropped to a PR 1 but I don't seem to be doing anything different, I understand that google PR isn't something that you should solely rely on to get your site hits and visitors but I am keen to get a high PR so it helps my site along a bit.

I am at the moment using 2 link exchange sites which are link2me and linkalizer to get regular backlinks and I am submitting to as many link directories as possible aswell as getting on as many forums as I can with my link in my signature but is there any other ways in which I can get more backlinks to my site?

Also I was wondering about DMOZ, I have heard so many good things about DMOZ but whenever I submit to them I never seem to get on, could there be a certain reason for this?

Thanks.

Re: Struggling With PR

DMOZ has been known to not accept sites quite a bit, or wait quite a long time before adding them.

as for Pagerank, I wish they'd get rid of it all together, but read my post here for my thoughts
What the heck did I do wrong?

Just keep building back links, that's all you can do to build Page Rank. But I'm starting to be with Rocket, PR is worthless anyways... :p

Just worry about traffic and SERP's

On a side note, running a general forum would be tough, I couldn't do it. Good job to you for the success so far.

Thanks, it is proving to be a bit tough but it's something I have always wanted to do so it's something I will stick with and aim to make a success

I did think that google PR could sometimes prove to be worthless but I guess it is always nice to have a good PR when you own a website or a forum in a sense

Thanks for the replies guys I shall stick with getting backlinks and see how it goes

You might try sponsoring some styles, this may or may not work with the recent attack on link sales, but it's an easy way to get more links.

First off stop participating in link exchange schemes, most will do more harm than good! If you want a good PR (which is worthless if you aren't selling PR based links) then try to get your site covered by news sites or blogs related to your niche.

Re: Struggling With PR

So am I right in thinking that the best thing for me to do would be to completly scrap the link exchange schemes like link2me and linkalizer and possibly concentrate more on maybe submitting topics from my site to places like Digg aswell as getting on more forums with my url in my signature?
