the best thing besides onsite optimization would be to get some high pr links from other carpet cleaning websites..
If you can't get links on those types of sites then some high PR directories in the sections that are similar to your site.

I've posted a few of the higher PR directories that I think are a good deal in the advertising section in our forums.

also make it simple for google, have you a sitemap generator running and ads it to their webmasters section ? What I heard is not to ping to often. I set it once a day...

An example of what I did call it luck or whatever. I run a forum called GreekRealm.com. So what I did was download Zoints Seo and installed. In my keywords I put down Greek Forum. With in two monthy if you googled and typed Greek Forum my forum came out number 4 on the first page and number 14 on Yahoo which in all reality in two months its great. That is all I really did. Hopefully it will work for your site to.

Try to make key phrases instead of a single keyword I read somewhere that it works better that way.

yup, keyword phrases are what I go over, not single keywords.

It all depends on what keywords you are trying to rank in. Something like "Greek Forum" may be much much easier than something like "PHP". For the latter you may never reach number one or even the first page.

When you say back links is that links from other websites to your site ?

I have been looking at directory site and was wondering how they go people to advertise on them. This is one I looked at Carpetcleaning.co.uk

Do these sites make money, and how comes they have such good domain names for diectory site

I started a directory a few weeks back, got near 200 active links today and I didn't yell hard. Brandon told in one place and I added signature n several forums I visit, not more. For links that search engines will follow you'll need or to pay or reciproke a link. And people do pay.. even at present I have no ranking yet on that page.

The scripts isn't expensive and wit a few paid links and some ad clicks in my case... it is paid.

And for sure once the pr climbs people will flow in even more easy. It is 'hot' these days to have links from sites with a high PR...

My thought was to start some local directorys for members of my forum, get links to my own compny website then to the forum site and try and get the guys who i get to link from the directory site to hopefully get a link back to the forum.

Can i get your directory's url.

If you look for a free script, phplinkdirectory has one, not to bad. I use the paid version that has several extra options but more admin side then user side.
