Does having a link directory on one's site provide any particular value from an SEO perspective? I know having many places link TO me is good. But having me link TO OTHERS - is that good for anything (other than for having a place to put reciprocal links when needed)?

And do you recommend GARS as a vB plugin versus other link directories like vBadvanced's offering, etc?

I think Gar's link directory is the best one out ;) hence why we use it here ;)

The value of this type of directory is more for the members IMO.
Users are able to post their sites, they get a nice little icons and can post a solid description.

Now, if your site is something like a Tech site and you are adding sites in your directory like newegg tigerdirect pcword bestbuy etc... I think this helps the members too.

Quality Link Directory and I used a subdomain cuz google will see subdomains as a different site then the root.
This way, when sites that are off topic to vBSetup are added to that dir, it doesn't hurt the forums at all.
