vBulletin SEO Friendly URLs Options

VBSEO - vBulletin Search Engine Optimization
--------------------------------------------------
VBSEO is the leading solution for optimizing your vBulletin Forum for Search Engines. It is actively developed and supported. The VBSEO community is filled with respective people in the SEO field who provide valuable feedback for VBSEO development. VBSEO is also responsible for the vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator. No way to remove Copyright and Encrypted Code are it's only cons at the moment. Some will argue price is a con, however the support and development you receive warrants the price to me.

Zoints SEO - Search Engine Optimization by Zoints
--------------------------------------------------
Considered to be the second best SEO software package in regards to features this add-on was released as not supported, however members of their Zoints Community Based Social Network have been given support on vBulletin.org. The Add-On is open source in hopes that the vBulletin.org community would better the product. So far it seems that no one as stepped up to the plate. Lot's of reports of Zoints SEO breaking parts of vBulletin.

vRewrite - SEOed URLs for vBulletin
--------------------------------------------------
One of the most basic Search Engine Optimization add-on for vBulletin. The program is supported but has not seen an update since May 15, 2006. It is not very rich in features. It's goal is just to provide rewritten urls.

DaniWeb SEO - Search Engine Friendly URLS
--------------------------------------------------
A simple hack for rewriting URLS. Uses Plugin System of 3.5.x/3.6.x. Removal of Duplicate URL's not assured. However DaniWeb is one of the premiere IT Discussion communities on the web with excellent Google Rankings.

Actually it does use the plugin system and requires no file edits. Aside from that, it is a very simple hack. Upload an .htaccess file, create a plugin, and you're done (ie not configurable).

Good to know. Was that information in the thread? I couldn't find it if so. I must be blind haha. Also if there is another location I should be linking to let me know!

Welcome to the site

I have updated the thread to reflect this now.

Well the tutorial was written before 3.5 was released, so it's a bit ad-hoc. The original post #1, designed for vB 3.0.x, shows how to do it by uploading the .htaccess file and then adding a snippet of code to the print_output() function in the functions.php file. Then post #3 is an update saying that it has been confirmed to work by putting the hack's code into the global_complete hook instead of doing the file edit.

As you know, I designed this hack just for DaniWeb, and then just decided to release it with limited support, way back long before the days of vBSEO or any other seo hack. That being said, I never actually took the time to create a product out of it, but back in Nov 2005 (post #3 of the tutorial) I wrote a post saying that it works fine to just create a plugin using the global_complete hook and throw my code into there.
