0 I guess a referrals contest could be good, perhaps bonus points for a referral and then the new member posting as well? Would that be tricky to moderate/track though?

Whenever I register at a new forum, I make it a point to fill in the ref name. If I don't know, I open a new page and look at the forum leaders page. Brandon, I didn't remember your name, just "loco.m" and you're not called that here (thank GOD) but I had to go look.

loco.m has a story that not many know, but the reason I use it sometimes or loco rather then Brandon is just cuz loco is shorter..lol
