Transfer sites to my new VPS help

Hey guys I got my first vps acount but Im a little naive on how to transfer my sites from my sharedhosting companies to my new vps. Any one have an idea on how to do it?

I tried this method but it didnt work.

Quote:
Login to your previous Cpanel account, go to Backups -> Generate/Download a Full Cpanel Backup.

Use the following settings:
Backup Destination: SCP
Remote server: (your VPS IP address)
Remote User: root
Remote Password: (root pass)
Port: 22
Remote Dir: /home

This will create a backup file on your VPS in the /home directory.
I got this email error about the backup..

Quote:
Cannot spawn scp Permission deniedCopying backup......DoneUnable to scp /home/chatnyne/backup-7.7.2008_11-58-45_chatnyne.tar.gz (ip example address) please check the host and user chatnyne and password
Could the problem be because the site Im trying to transfer has only been online for like 5 days with the other company that is hosting it?

Why not manually move it?

Is your VPS managed or unmanaged? Meaning is it setup or needs setting up?

Its not difficult if need help lemme know I be happy to help you

Just hit me up on pm

Why not ask your host to do it, majority of the managed vps hosts would gladly transfer the site for you as long as you are using same control panel.

Re: Transfer sites to my new VPS help

Its unmanaged! I have no idea what Im diong haha.. My previous host never registered the nameservers which is why I was getting the error but he fixed it. Now I have my new forum on my vps which I have no idea what to do with. Advice would be great thanks. I went with small orange and chose their 50 dollar vps package. I figured I can play around with my new forum since I dont have much to lose. Eventually Id like to bring over my larger forum but not until I become familiar working with my vps.

Im also assuming my forum is offline because the nameserver changes?

Most probably, btw US$ 50 for an unmanaged VPS? What kind of resources are you getting?

Re: Transfer sites to my new VPS help

This is what I get for US$42.5 (no coupon) from Knownhost:

384MB dedicated RAM
10GB space
200GB bandwidth
Cpanel
Fully managed

Frankly speaking, US$50 a month for a 256MB unmanaged VPS sounds daylight robbery when one can easily find a 512MB fully managed VPS with more bandwidth and space for the same price.

That definately sounds like a good deal. I have a question though what do they mean by fully managed? What do they do on their end?

For a transfer it makes me feel better to do it manually. this way you have a backup just in case as well.....do a full backup, d/l it, then upload to new host.
